Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The best-known management degree, suited to graduates with some work experience who want to lead teams, run a business or change careers.

About this course

An MBA builds general management skills across finance, marketing, operations, strategy and leadership. Most programmes are taught through case studies, group projects and live consulting work with companies.

UK and Irish MBAs take one year; Australian, Canadian and American programmes usually take 16 to 24 months and may include an internship. Many universities offer MBAs with a specialisation such as international business, healthcare management or business analytics.

Because admission often depends on work experience as well as grades, we encourage students to apply after two or more years of employment, and we help you present that experience well.

What you will study

  • Financial accounting and corporate finance
  • Marketing strategy and consumer behaviour
  • Operations and supply chain management
  • Leadership, organisational behaviour and ethics
  • Strategic management and entrepreneurship
  • Consulting project or internship

Entry requirements

  • Typically a bachelor's degree with around 55–60% or GPA 2.5+
  • Two or more years of relevant work experience for most programmes
  • IELTS 6.5–7.0 overall or PTE 58–65
  • GMAT or GRE for some top-ranked schools (many now waive it)
  • Statement of purpose, CV and two references
These requirements are indicative. Every university sets its own grades and English scores; your counselor will confirm the current requirement for each course on your shortlist.
