Master of Information Technology

A conversion-friendly master's for graduates from any background who want to move into software, networks, cloud or IT management.

About this course

The Master of Information Technology is designed for two kinds of students: IT graduates who want to specialise, and graduates from business, science or management who want to move into technology. Most universities offer entry points for both.

You will choose a specialisation such as software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, networking, business information systems or artificial intelligence, and complete an industry project or internship in the final semester.

It is one of the most popular postgraduate choices for Nepali students in Australia and New Zealand, where the longer duration also opens up post-study work options.

What you will study

  • Programming and software engineering fundamentals
  • Database design and cloud infrastructure
  • Networking and cybersecurity principles
  • Project management and IT governance
  • A specialisation stream (AI, cloud, security, data)
  • Industry capstone project or internship

Entry requirements

  • Typically a bachelor's degree in any field with around 55–60% or GPA 2.5+
  • A related degree or work experience shortens the course to 1.5 years at many universities
  • IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) or PTE 58+
  • Statement of purpose and up-to-date CV
  • Some universities ask for a short bridging module for non-IT graduates
These requirements are indicative. Every university sets its own grades and English scores; your counselor will confirm the current requirement for each course on your shortlist.
