BSc Environmental Science and Sustainability

A science degree for students who want to work on climate, water, energy and conservation, with strong options in Europe and the USA.

About this course

Environmental Science and Sustainability degrees combine biology, chemistry, earth science and data analysis with policy, economics and planning. You learn how ecosystems work, how human activity affects them, and how to design practical solutions in energy, water, agriculture and cities.

Fieldwork is a core part of the course, from water sampling and ecological surveys to GIS mapping and climate modelling. Final-year projects are often run with government agencies, NGOs or companies working on renewable energy and sustainable development.

The Nordic countries, Germany, Ireland and the USA are strong choices for this field, and several European programmes are taught in English with low tuition fees. A master's in the same area follows naturally for students who want to specialise.
